“To me, Pride means having the courage to exist in a world that wants to see me fail and succeeding in spite of it. It’s being proud of my beautiful blackness and queerness and showing up in the world in a way that is authentic and unapologetic. It’s about a beautiful community of people who have found joy and celebration in their identities in spite of a long history of police brutality, hate crimes, and unjust legislation.
I hope we continue to celebrate our freedom, but never forget the long road that led us to where we are today. We still have a long way to go and so much to fight for. I chose to incorporate the new pride flag in my makeup to highlight the fact that black and brown, as well as trans members of the LGBTQ+ community, still need protection. Especially those at the intersection of those communities. #BlackTransLivesMatter and deserve to be able to live their lives proudly and without fear and we shouldn’t stop fighting until that is the case.” — @laveaucontraire
