Carnival is back and we are beyond excited! We are going to be experimenting with Elektra Cosmetics Power Pigments today. So why not go for the colors of the season: Purple, Green, and Gold.
The Power Pigment line has 30 different colors of pigments and an array of hues, but today let us focus on the Mardi Gras colors.
- Maid of Orleans. A bold, yellow-gold color that is a little sparkly and can be worn multitude of ways. It looks like liquid gold when you mix it with the transformer. For a costume look it can work well dry to highlight the brow bone or as a liquid to illuminate the corner of the eye.
- Gilded Lady. This mineral powder is beautiful and light as air. These pigments are organic and are perfect if you are a sparkle fan but Microfine Glitter is a little bit too much of a commitment. It’s subtle but super sparkly when used dry-almost like a glitter dust.
- Desire is a beautiful sage green color with hints of gold. Formulated to match our beloved streetcars, when applied it creates a lovely patina effect.
There are several different ways to use Power Pigments:
- as a powder with our Power Primer,
- mixed with the Gel Transformer,
- mixed with the Liquid Transformer, and
- mixed with the Mint Glaze lip gloss.
Using Power Primer
If using these products as an eyeshadow, try applying them first as a powder.
You can apply them directly to your skin or you can guarantee a stronger hold with our Power Primer.
Power Primer provides a long lasting base that allows for the application of buildable powder colors.
If you like the look, try lightly blending it with the other powder colors you have applied for your eyeshadow look.
It’s very easy to over blend. So keep it real light on the blending.
Power Primer
Any long-lasting eyeshadow look starts with a great primer. The Elektra Power Primer is an amazing base for regular daily eyeshadow or more bold looks. It even looks gorgeous just on its own. It’s almost like a thick concealer but creates a flawless finish to lay other products on-top. It is a neutral color and can blend well with light, medium or dark skin tones.
Using Gel or Liquid Transformer
If you want a bold parade-ready look with Power Pigments, try the Gel Transformer.
If you have our Microfine glitters, you likely have the Liquid Transformer.
While both transformers work with both the Power Pigments and Microfine glitters, the Gel Transformer is better suited for detailing and eyeliner. The Liquid Transformer is great for designs or large areas that you want to be very bold with the pigment or glitter.
How to Use the Transformers
- Pick your pigment color and tap out a little onto a plate or other mixing surface.
- To use the Liquid Transformer, start with one or two drops of the Liquid Transformer and mix it together with your pigment.
- For the Gel Transformer, start with one large gel drop and mix it together with your pigment. Then you can see how intense the pigment becomes.
- When you blend, start lightly until you get the right consistency or opaqueness.
- You can achieve a parade-ready look with pigments in only a few minutes.
Look out for our upcoming Powerhouse Post, where we will show you how to cover your brows using Gel Transformer and pigment.
Gel Transformer is amazing for covering eyebrows and it is also amazing as an eyeliner.
Power Pigments mixed with the Gel Transformer make great eyeliners. You can use them to create a simple colorful liner or place them on top of another liner. If you enjoy a bolder eyeliner look, layer power pigments over your regular black or brown eyeliner for an extra pop. For an even bolder look, layer our pigments over a liquid liner.
Lip
Power Pigments also work well with our Mint Glaze lip gloss and long wear lipsticks.
Put them over a long wear lipstick and the pigment will change the tint and tone of the original lipstick color. Just make sure you put it on while it’s still wet.
With Mint Glaze, which is minty and fresh, the color stays sticky and will not dry. Once you put on the pigment or glitter, it stays on. When creating a color mix with pigments and gloss, applying with a q-tip or a makeup brush is the best way to go. If you want an intense or bold look, just keep tapping on the gloss mix until you are satisfied.
Our recommended colors for a cool carnival look are Plum and Paranormal.
Plum is an opaque purple with a blue tint, while Paranormal is a more sheer ethereal blue/purple tint. It’s a duo-chrome product so it will appear purple in certain lights and blue in others.
Face Paint
Finally, let’s discuss what you can do with these pigments if you want to do a large section of your face. You can use Power Pigments dry or with the transformer depending on how you want your face paint to look. Using the pigment dry will lightly color the section and can be blended into designs or contouring. Using the pigments with the Liquid Transformer gives the pigment a paint-like consistency and vibrancy.
A little bit goes a long way with our pigments. You can paint your entire face with just a couple dabs of the pigment. If you pair it with the Liquid Transformer until it’s a paint-like consistency, you can literally paint your whole face with just a little bit of product.
